Ethics

HUNT Biosciences was established in 2007 to offer a professional interface with industry and facilitate commercial use of the HUNT Databank without compromising the interests of the donor population.

The Norwegian authorities have earned the population's trust through a well-established framework and rigorous routines for protection of person information. Based on this trust and the unique system of unambiguous personal identification numbers, HUNT Biosciences offers , in addition to accesing the HUNT Biobank, also integration of HUNT Biobank data with other national registries on clinical information and medical end-points, as well as genealogical and family linkage information.

The Regional Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics (REK) has evaluated the existing informed consents for the HUNT Studies and concludes that HUNT Biosciences may carry out its activities as described, as the company is under full public control and since all projects will have to be approved by REK and the HUNT Research Centre before initiation.
